Totally smitten by Alexandra Kohl’s unique woven pieces

As a horse lover, I have to admit that I am totally smitten by these original and gorgeous creations, made of horsehair and cotton,

by New York based artist Alexandra Kohl.

One by one, all stunning pieces of art!

Showing her deep love and admiration of horses, Alexandra uses horsehair and cotton to create a series of unique works of textural art, all handwoven on a traditional loom.

“Alexandra’s work is informed by minimalism, organic architecture, and the natural qualities of plant and animal. Her work transmits a meditative, healing essence through the stillness of simple design and equine spirit.” , is to read on her website.

Many of her pieces are made of hair from the horses who are rescued and rehabilitated by Our Farm in North Salem, NY.

Alexandra has yet created a number of extraordinary custom textile works for avid riders with hair from their horses’ manes or tails.

Last year, Architectural Digest named her one of “17 On-the-Rise Designers You Should Know Now.”

In collaboration with furniture maker and designer J.M. Szymanski, Alexandra even created some extraordinary pieces of furniture.

As these benches, with seats in woven horsehair, and in blackened and waxed steel.
