I am so proud to show you these pictures of the beautiful roses of our garden. We planted 3 types of old Bourbon roses in September last year and I am so pleased to be able to decorate our home with our own wonderful old garden roses this year!
We planted the Honorine de Brabant, the Madame Isaac Pereire and the Ulrich Brunner roses. They are all blooming at this moment and I will show you pictures of them in our garden later.
I have to thank Trish of Trouvais for her help to choose the right roses! Trish is a connoisseur of old garden roses! She already posted wonderful posts of her garden roses on her blog.
This is the Ulrich Brunner Bourbon rose. She is so beautiful and her leaves feel as velvet!
Here are our different Bourbon roses in a group. At the background is the Ulrich Brunner, the light colored is the Honorine de Brabant and on the foreground is the Madame Isaac Pereire.

Very nice!
You ladies have me finally thinking I should try my hand at planting and growing roses. I have always been afraid to try, but too beautiful to resist! Gorgeous Greet. XO
Your roses are so beautiful and I too have been planting roses this spring but mine are English roses I’ll have to try a bourbon rose like yours, so beautiful. The image with the double windows with the word flowers across the beam is Meg Ryan’s Nantucket house from Elle Décor I love her home.
Loving the small arrangements, Greet, in your home. It makes each one seem so special. Sending love, beautiful lady…
Nothing like fresh flowers to cheer up a room. And if the flowers are from your own garden, better still! Looking forward to seeing more of your own roses, Greet.
Hope you are having a wonderful week!
All stunning I must say, roses are such a gorgeous flower in any color but something about that second picture…wow! The blooms are so big and gorgeous and that purple is fabulous and the picture of the grouping of the roses on the chest with the leopard throw on the chair is also gorgeous….amazing what something as small as a flower grown from the soil of the earth can do to a room! Loved the pictures, Greet!
Yes, I love the old garden roses. Your images are quite beautiful. I hope you will check out the story I told, at my blog, about my grandmother's rose garden 🙂
Greet, your photos inspired me the most by far! So incredibly lovely. Thank you!
Greet,
Isn't it wonderful to bring your own garden flowers into your home! They are very lovely and I bet they smell heavenly! Makes me want to relax and just smell the roses!
Kris
beautiful small arrangements, Greet. your lovely post reminds me of a quote that I love by Vicente Wolf's book "Learning to See": "Flowers make a space seem suddenly fresh and clean…They bring a sense of sunshine to a room…Everything else – the furniture, the curtains – is there for the long haul. But flowers embody a moment in time. You enjoy them in each stage from bud to blossom, and then they are gone. The fact that they are ephemeral is part of their beauty…"
lovely greetings
Maria
Greet…your roses look just beautiful in their first year! Love the simplicity of your vases. You picked wonderful roses. Nothing better than placing a bouquet of Bourbon roses in your bedroom earlier in the day…and retiring later to that heavenly scented room. Congratulations! XO Trish
I planted the beautiful Madame Isaac Pereire in my last garden and the scent was incredible. I had forgotten about it so I am glad you reminded me ~ I may go and grab another bush to plant again.
My current garden has lots of David Austen and masses of the Delbard Painters series which I have planted wherever I can sneak another rose bush in. You see, my husband complains that they are vindictive and nasty bushes, because he reckons they grow thorns on purpose just to stab him!
I love your simple arrangements which allow the full beauty of the rose to be revealed.
Such beautiful roses, Greet. One of my favorite parts of Spring is awaiting the first rose bloom in my garden…wonderful!!
Hello dear Greet,
I adore beautiful old roses! Yours are so very lovely and your images of them are also. It was a real treat to see them!
Love and hugs, Cindy
Lucky you, we are too tropical for roses in our gardens….ah well orchids will have to do!
I adore old garden roses and have grown them for a very long time, almost 20 years. I had Mdme. Ernest Calvat in my garden in Tulsa and Mdme. Isaac Perriere in my garden now, in the suburbs of Washington, DC. They are so reliable and easy to grow with beautiful flowers. I particularly like that the scent has not been bred out of these roses.
Paula ~ Mise en scène
i had them in my bouquet at my wedding 🙂
Greet,
Beautiful roses (and what a feeling that they are from your own beautiful garden!) and beautiful images my friend. And the scent!
Warm hugs to you, I am off to Sweden.

Hello Greet!

Trish of Trouvais' garden is an envy of mine. Love these selections and have made a note. pgt
Yes…old, rambling, proper, big, singular, or in clusters…..roses, ahh the very breath of love.
I love these pictures and they work so well in your lovely rooms! Roses always remind me of my Grandmother – she had the most beautiful apricot rose outside of her living room window and I still remember it after all these years!

Greet, These are all just fabulous images. The simple beauty of a rose cannot be beat. Hugs to you. Mona
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! What more can I say… Vibrant with life and color! They bring back memories of my Grandfather tending his rose garden, when I was a young pup. It was his therapy. Grandmother would fill the house with them in the summer.
Greet, Congratulations to you on your exceptional roses! How lovely that you shared them with us…thank you, all the best, danielle
Hi Greet BRAVA they smell wonderful ! a dn look heavenly. I agree about the scent ,ive been to 2 historic gardens in the past 2 weeks one the roses were heavly scented and full of childhood memories and the other was such a disappointment. Would also like a slice of that goats cheese and bread !! love fay xx
Greet, you have definitely inspired us. We have a few rose bushes; however, not plan on getting a few more. Adore being able cut roses to use indoors. Your roses are beautiful!

Hello Greet,
wonderful post on gorgeous old garden roses…
so beautiful…
I have a shrub rose that's from my Great Grandmothers estate…I have propagated it and given shoots away to others as gifts…
thanks for the lovely inspiration…

Sigh… If only I could have fresh roses year-round. I would place them in every nook and cranny throughout my home. Thanks for the amazing inspiration! Chic Rooms
I have a few Mme. Pereire roses and they seem to struggle here in So Cal. But other old roses such as Bagatelle seem to do well; even a single rose is thus a gift! Thank you for the lovely images.
Chère Greet,
Superbes ces roses anciennes !
J'aime bien Honorine de Brabant… Dans mon jardin aussi elles sont magnifiques cette année.
à bientôt !
Céline.
Beautiful, beautiful Greet….I adore all your varieties….xv

Beautiful. I love how a single bloom can brighten an entire room! At our old house we had an arched trellis with climbing roses… it was so pretty. xo
Isn't it amazing how much impact a flower can have in a room? Your roses are beautiful!
Have a great weekend!
Heather
Gorgeous roses Greet! I will have to add these rose names to my planting list for September. I have 5 rose bushes now, and would love to add more, it was such a cold winter all my flowers are taking forever to bloom.
Can't wait to see the images with them in your garden.
