We recently finished a breakfast nook makeover and as I had the chance to take some pictures last week, I would love to share them with you today.

This breakfast room that is in close proximity to the kitchen, was designed as a relaxing and comfortable space to enjoy the first meal of the day. However this room is also often utilized for non formal lunches and dinners as this family loves to invite friends to join them for a good meal.

In fact this room didn’t need that much changes. The room was already beautifully decorated and the walls were given a gorgeous decorative paint technique only 3 years ago. But the lady of the house wanted to have some more space to store and to display tableware and loved to see some changes to the design of the existing fireplace.

So we started working out a new look.

The existing solid wood butchers block was moved to the basement and the bluestone fireplace surroundings were removed in order to give the fire place a less massive look.

On both sides of the open fire we added a fixed wall-mounted iron candle holder, made by a local artisan. And on the right side of the fireplace we designed and installed a built-in display cabinet with chicken wire doors, paying attention to the choice of the cabinet doors’ hardware. Led lights were installed in the cabinet, providing a very discreet way of illuminating the displayed tableware.

The inside of the cabinet is painted in an orange-red to match the colour palette of the antique burgundy terracotta floor tiles.

The breakfast room is now ready for cozy fall and winter morning breakfasts and evening dinners.
