Belgian Interior Design is setting tone!

Joni from Cote de Texas, did an amazing post of Belgian Design in her blogpost the other day.
As reading the comments on her post, she unchained a real discussion about Belgian Interior Design! She really did a good job, because writing a post that makes us thinking is very interesting!
As being a Belgian interior designer, it is so nice to read that almost all the readers of Joni’s post, do love Belgian Design!

And it is true that if a certain design is “hot”, from that moment on , it is brought to the masses!
Similar phenomenon is seen in fashion design.
So let us watch what Belgian Design is up to in future!

Indeed, to me, there is a difference between the real designers with their own thoughtful creations and the pseudo-designers with their look-a-like creations.
Question is: who are the real designers and who are the pseudo-designers?

Does the mass sees or feels the difference? Do we all have the perception of authenticity?

A thing to be sure of is, that when you visit the castle of Axel Vervoordt, our most famous designer, you feel pureness and authenticity in all the rooms of the castle!
I wonder what he would think about all this?

In addition to Joni’s post , I would like to share some images of interiors, which are all from Belgian Designers (including my company).
Maybe, you will feel and see differences looking at them or you will notice the belgian craftsmanship…
I will not give any comment on the pics. My only intention is that you all enjoy them!

And Joni, thank you so much for adding Belgian Pearls to your bloglist!

Greet-Beautiful picures, I liked the 3rd picture best. I really liked your post and what you had to say, and agree. I had seen the web site of RH the day before Joni's post and thought similar to you just said. I had found Joni's post over a year by typing in the search engine "Belgian design" , we had looked at the home we are in now and moving I knew I wanted to do my new home in that sort of design, then when I came across Brook's site a few months later I was truely inspired. Fast forward to your site and the same has happened. Thank you so much for sharing your pictures and ideas with us here on the web. We are going to Antwerp in a few weeks, Im excited to see what I can find there. Julie in Holland.. 🙂 Happy weekend!

I love all the images especially the ones with wood paneled walls. In the second to last photo I am impressed both by the starkness of the room, but also the warmth it evokes. My other favorite is the room viewed thru the door. It is stunning!

Thank you for a lovely post and all the gorgeous, inspiring photos. I love them all, I don't believe I could pick a favorite. I'm sure I'll come back to this again and again. I adore Belgian style and design. When I see photos of rooms like these, they feel like home.

For years I never knew the Belgian aesthetic. I knew what I loved but rarely saw it (only in photographs) growing up in the southeast US. It wasn't until I moved to Europe that I could put a label on what it was I loved and was drawn to. For me, it is the pinnacle of casual elegance.

Hi Greet. Beautiful…and love that extra touch of fragility in many photos that balance out the neutral simplicity…the pearls, I should say. This in not as easily mass produced, it's more personal and authentic. The chandeliers, boiserie curves of the alcoves, painted murals at the top of the wall, red mismatched chairs on either side of the fireplace…all elevate the design that extra step. On "Trouvais" I sort of obsess over the stories behind old things…so I appreciate how Belgian Style's neutrality can be such a great backdrop for great "finds".

Just beautiful, Greet. It makes me realize why, if I should ever need to move back to Europe, I would move to Belgium in a flash!

It is so interesting to get your perspective on this, Greet.
Like any style of design, there are only a few experts that really capture the warmth and beauty of Belgian design. It will be interesting to see if the masses will see the difference. What I know for sure is this: the Belgian aesthetic is classic and will survive its present "fad" status.

Beautiful images. What I noticed is the bones/elements of the rooms match the craftmanship of the furniture and art – they support each other. So glad you are blogging! Michele

Beautiful images! They are all very serene and peaceful looking. North American men on the whole seem to like wood, so they would love Belgium design just for that.
I will be watching for the next post on your out building:o) Hugs, Cindy S.

Your blog is just lush!!! Although I've always been a big fan of Scandinavian design, I literally fell in love with the Belgian style, which in my opinion is a great combination of French charm and Scandinavian cosiness and practicality. Great job, Greet!
